Senate Minority Leader Tito Sotto has questioned the legality of a proposed subcommittee under the panel tasked with investigating the flood control controversy.
Sotto raised the concern as the Senate prepares to resume hearings on the issue on June 4. According to the senator, the plan of the newly formed committee to establish a subcommittee is not legal.
Meanwhile, Senate President Alan Cayetano said during a live social media broadcast that the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee is scheduled to continue its hearing on June 4, which falls on Thursday.
Cayetano assured the public that the proceedings would be conducted impartially. He said members of the majority bloc are interested in ensuring that all facts surrounding the flood control controversy are brought to light through the investigation.
The Senate president also expressed his belief that conflict already exists surrounding the issue even before the hearing resumes.
The flood control controversy has remained a topic of public interest as lawmakers continue to examine matters related to the implementation of flood control projects and other concerns linked to the program.
Last week, Sen. Pia Cayetano named the lawmaker who will serve as chairman of the committee handling the inquiry.
With the hearing set to resume on June 4, attention is expected to focus not only on the issues being investigated but also on questions regarding the committee’s structure and procedures following Sotto’s remarks.
