Madriaga included in VP Sara impeachment witness list

Ramil Madriaga, who identified himself as a former aide and alleged bagman of Vice President Sara Duterte, is included in the list of 25 witnesses prepared by the House prosecution panel for Duterte’s impeachment trial.

According to Batangas Rep. Gerville Luistro, Madriaga is expected to testify regarding the use of ₱125 million in confidential funds from the Office of the Vice President (OVP). The prosecution panel claims the amount was spent in less than 24 hours.

Madriaga is among the witnesses the prosecution intends to present during the Senate trial, which is scheduled to begin on July 6, 2026.

Aside from Madriaga’s testimony, the prosecution plans to seek subpoenas for records from more than five banks involving accounts belonging to the Duterte-Carpio couple.

The House prosecution panel also intends to request documents and information from several government agencies, including the Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC), the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the Office of the Ombudsman, and the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).

The planned requests form part of the evidence-gathering efforts ahead of the impeachment proceedings in the Senate.

Meanwhile, prosecutors emphasized that senator-judges should be physically present during the trial. The prosecution panel maintained that attendance in person is necessary when the impeachment court convenes.

The impeachment trial is expected to address allegations and evidence presented by both the prosecution and the defense once proceedings formally begin in July.

Madriaga’s inclusion in the witness list marks one of the key developments disclosed by the prosecution panel as preparations continue for the upcoming impeachment trial of the vice president.
