There will be no change in leadership in the House of Representatives with the start of the 20th Congress.
This is the view of House Deputy Speaker Jay-Jay Suarez and Committee on Agriculture and Food Chairman Mark Enverga, following reports that Congressman Toby Tiangco or Congressman-elect Albee Benitez might possibly replace Speaker Martin Romualdez.
In an interview on Friday, Enverga and Suarez said that Romualdez will still lead the House.
They cited the manifesto of support for the legislative agenda of President Bongbong Marcos, which remains in place.
Suarez also emphasized that the House’s performance over the past three years, including its handling of issues facing the country, has been notable.
He said that continuity is crucial for Congress, and they fully support Romualdez.
The House leader added that he sees no reason to replace Romualdez. Suarez said It’s natural for new names to emerge as the 20th Congress approaches.
The house leader added that under Romualdez’ leadership the House of Representatives will focus on the legislative agenda, such as maintaining affordable rice prices and addressing other agricultural issues.”
