Senate minority bloc members want Gatchalian as new SP

Several members of the Senate minority bloc reportedly believe that Senator Win Gatchalian has the capability to become the next Senate President.

In a statement, Senator Francis Pangilinan said that the SB-11, or Solid Bloc 11, wants Gatchalian to take over the Senate presidency.

According to Pangilinan, Gatchalian has proven his ability to protect public funds and ensure that government resources are directed to those who need them most, especially during the deliberations of the 2026 national budget.

He also described Gatchalian as principled, highly competent, steady, and fair.

Pangilinan added that the senator has the ability to unite a broader, reform-oriented Senate that is more balanced, accountable, and acceptable even to some members of the current majority bloc.

He further claimed that even current Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano may vote for Gatchalian to become the next Senate President.

Meanwhile, Senator Panfilo Lacson described Gatchalian as “eminently qualified” for the position.

According to Lacson, in every committee hearing handled by Gatchalian, the senator always demonstrated mastery of the issues and came fully prepared.

Earlier, Senator Erwin Tulfo said that coup attempts to replace the current Senate leadership are still ongoing.
