Sen. Imee Marcos said she was warned by an unidentified caller to avoid going out in public due to fears she could face the same situation as broadcaster Jay Sonza, who was recently arrested over alleged false information regarding the President’s health.
In a video post on social media, Marcos recounted receiving a nervous phone call from someone advising her to stay home temporarily.
According to the senator, the caller claimed Malacañang was upset over statements she made during an interview in Cebu, where she mentioned that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. had supposedly been repeatedly visiting hospitals.
Marcos defended her earlier remarks, saying the information she shared with the media was based on details allegedly relayed to her by Palace sources and by people involved in assisting her brother.
The senator did not identify the individuals who supposedly provided the information.
She also questioned why discussing what she described as truthful information now appeared to be treated as a national security concern.
Marcos compared her situation to that of Sonza, who was recently apprehended over allegations that he spread false claims regarding the President’s health condition.
The senator’s statements come amid heightened political tensions involving public discussions about the health of national leaders and the spread of alleged misinformation online.
Malacañang has not issued any response in the statement provided regarding Marcos’ claims or her concerns about possible legal consequences.
