Sen. Imee Marcos questioned why the Senate has not investigated the allegations made by 18 former marines involving an alleged P805 billion money delivery scheme.
Marcos stressed that whenever serious and heavy allegations are raised, especially those that could constitute perjury, it is the Senate’s duty to examine them.
She said it is important to look into the claims made by the former marines against several personalities, including former House Speaker Martin Romualdez, former congressman Zaldy Co, Senate President Pro Tempore Tito Sotto, Sen. Chiz Escudero, Sen. Erwin Tulfo, Sen. Mark Villar and Sen. Loren Legarda, among others.
Marcos described as “astonishing” the claim that P805 billion was allegedly delivered to a single individual over just two years. She said the magnitude of the allegation alone warrants verification to determine whether it is true.
According to her, conducting an investigation would not only protect public interest but also safeguard those accused. If the allegations are proven false, she said there should be accountability for those responsible.
Marcos added that the Senate should not allow the reputation of its members, particularly those leading the institution, to be damaged by unverified claims.
Earlier, in a privilege speech, Senate President Pro Tempore Ping Lacson questioned the “logic and basic math” behind the alleged money delivery scheme.
