Sandro Marcos rejects House probe on flood control scandal

House Majority Leader Sandro Marcos said the House of Representatives should not lead the investigation into alleged anomalies in flood control projects linked to several lawmakers.

In an interview, Marcos said he supports a third-party investigation into the issue, citing potential conflicts of interest if the House probes its own members. He noted that the Executive branch is already conducting a review after President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. released a list of contractors allegedly involved in questionable projects.

Marcos, the president’s son, stressed that while the House can assist in identifying irregularities, the main probe should be handled by the Executive. “The accused are my colleagues,” he said, adding that impartiality is crucial.

He also emphasized that investigations are not the only way for the legislature to contribute. The House, he said, can work alongside the Executive on other flood-related concerns, such as improving waste management in Metro Manila, which he identified as a major cause of flooding.

Marcos added that he would not dictate to other House members what actions they should or should not take regarding the matter.

The controversy over the flood control projects has drawn public attention, especially after President Marcos named contractors but stopped short of identifying politicians allegedly involved.
