Former House Speaker Martin Romualdez was recommended for further investigation in connection with the flood control project issue, according to Senate President Pro Tempore Ping Lacson.
Lacson clarified that Romualdez is not among those facing criminal charges related to the controversy. However, he said the Senate panel’s draft partial report includes a recommendation to continue examining Romualdez’s possible involvement.
He explained that the recommendation was made because there was no corroborative evidence against Romualdez, unlike allegations involving other lawmakers. Lacson said the panel categorized lawmakers linked to the issue and placed Romualdez among those whose names were mentioned but lacked validation and corroboration.
Meanwhile, a petition seeking full disclosure of the partial report was filed with the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee by lawyer Marvin Aceron. The petition came amid the report’s non-release to the public.
Senate President Tito Sotto said Lacson’s committee is aware of how to address the petition. Lacson earlier said discussions would be held with Sotto, members of the Blue Ribbon Committee and the Senate legal team regarding the matter.
The draft partial report and related recommendations are expected to be taken up by the committee as it continues its review of the flood control project issue and determines possible next steps.
