Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla said he is not closing the possibility of seeking the presidency in 2028, particularly if the election presents a clear and direct choice for voters.
In an interview, Remulla indicated that he would only consider a presidential run if the contest results in a one-on-one or two-way battle. He said clarity in the race is important so voters can easily understand the direction and leadership style being offered.
Remulla stressed that the identity of his potential opponent is not a major factor. He said the race could involve him or another leader from within the administration, as long as the choice before the public is straightforward and well-defined.
He emphasized that what matters most is providing voters with a clear option and a distinct version of leadership, rather than a crowded field that could confuse the electorate.
Despite the remarks, Remulla clarified that he has not made any final decision regarding a 2028 presidential bid. He said the idea remains only a possibility at this stage.
For now, Remulla said his focus remains on his responsibilities as secretary of the Department of the Interior and Local Government. He oversees local government units, the Philippine National Police, and other attached agencies.
Remulla also noted that family support is an important consideration in any major political decision. He said he would need the agreement and backing of his family before taking any step toward seeking higher office.
The 2028 national elections are still several years away, and no official candidates have declared their intentions. Remulla’s comments add to early discussions about potential contenders and the shape of the next presidential race.
