A pregnant nurse died after two vehicles struck her while she was on her way to a hospital duty on Sunday night, June 1, around 9:15 PM along the highway in Purok Proper North, Barangay Taloc, Bago City in Negros Occidental.
Her unborn child also died in the incident. Authorities identified the victim as Maria Angela Buendia, 36, who was six months pregnant with a baby boy. She lived in the area.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Ariel Pico, officer-in-charge of the Bago City Police Station, reported that Buendia crossed the pedestrian lane and headed toward Valladolid Hospital for her scheduled night shift.
Suddenly, a Toyota Avanza Wagon struck Buendia. The vehicle, driven by 30-year-old Philip Jansen Cantiller, traveled from the south, heading north. Cantiller resides in Deca Homes Subdivision in Barangay Cabug, Bacolod City.
The collision threw Buendia into the opposite lane, where a Toyota Vios hit her. The driver, 59-year-old Salvador Castro, lives in Barangay Crossing Pulupandan, Pulupandan.
The impact was so severe that the collision caused Buendia’s six-month-old fetus to be ejected from her womb.*
