The Philippine National Police (PNP) has launched an investigation into the spread of false information on social media regarding the health of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
PNP Chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said the police force is determined to identify individuals responsible for misleading the public about the President’s condition.
According to Nartatez, the PNP will coordinate with other government agencies to track down those behind the fake news circulating online.
He said the police will work closely with partner agencies to identify and hold accountable personalities involved in spreading false information about the Chief Executive.
The investigation comes after the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) earlier denied reports claiming that President Marcos was ill.
The PCO stressed that the President remains in good condition and dismissed circulating reports about his alleged sickness as false.
Authorities said the effort to investigate the source of the misinformation is part of the government’s response to the spread of misleading claims involving the President’s health.
The PNP emphasized its commitment to pursuing individuals responsible for spreading false information that could mislead the public.
Officials said coordination among concerned agencies is ongoing to determine the origin of the claims and ensure accountability for those involved in disseminating inaccurate reports about the President’s condition.
The investigation remains underway as authorities continue efforts to verify information and address the spread of fake news related to the President’s health.
