PNP to deploy more personnel around Senate amid political tensions

The Philippine National Police (PNP) has vowed to strengthen security at the Senate and nearby government facilities amid ongoing political tensions.

In a statement, PNP Chief Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) and local police units have been directed to implement precautionary security measures around the Senate complex.

The PNP will also deploy additional personnel as part of a proactive and preventive security strategy.

According to the police force, the increased deployment aims to maximize police visibility and establish checkpoints in areas surrounding the institution.

The PNP noted that heightened political tensions have fueled public debate and may lead to demonstrations near the Senate.

As a result, authorities said a stronger police presence is necessary to ensure public safety and allow government operations to continue without disruption.

Nartatez emphasized that the PNP remains apolitical.

He stressed that the organization’s mandate is to maintain peace and order and ensure that the Senate can perform its duties free from external interference or disruptions.
