Pickup crashes into center island in Cebu; driver allegedly fell asleep

The front portion of a pickup truck was severely damaged after it crashed into a center island along the South Road Properties (SRP) early Monday morning, March 2.

Authorities said the vehicle slammed into the concrete divider while traveling along the SRP in Cebu City.

Despite the impact, the 38-year-old driver and his 4-year-old daughter, who was inside the vehicle during the crash, survived the incident.

According to Hilyn, a concerned citizen who happened to pass by the area, she immediately checked on the victims after seeing the damaged vehicle.

In an interview with Brigada News FM Cebu, Hilyn said she saw the young child trembling in fear following the crash.

She said she comforted the girl by hugging and carrying her while calling for assistance from authorities.

Initial information gathered indicated that the driver was on his way home to Toledo City when the accident happened.

Authorities believe the driver may have briefly fallen asleep while driving, which possibly caused the pickup truck to veer off and hit the center island.

Both the driver and the child were reported safe after the incident.

Following the crash, authorities again reminded motorists to avoid driving when feeling drowsy or fatigued.

They emphasized that falling asleep at the wheel can lead to serious road accidents and put both drivers and passengers at risk.

Officials continue to urge motorists to prioritize road safety and ensure they are well-rested before operating a vehicle.
