A family of three died after their motorcycle collided with a fish carrier truck in Barangay Mambaid, Jimalalud town, on Sunday morning, March 1.
Police said the crash happened around 10 a.m. when the motorcycle and the truck, which were traveling in opposite directions, collided along the road.
Initial investigation identified the motorcycle driver as Mario Alcano, a 32-year-old farmer.
Riding with him were his 25-year-old wife and their 4-year-old child.
The other vehicle involved was a fish carrier truck driven by a 48-year-old man who was accompanied by a helper.
Authorities said the truck struck the motorcycle upon reaching the area, resulting in a violent collision.
Due to the strong impact, the truck helper was thrown off the vehicle, while Alcano became trapped at the front portion of the truck.
Meanwhile, Alcano’s wife and their child were reportedly thrown into the truck during the crash.
Alcano was declared dead on arrival at the rural health unit.
His wife and child were rushed to a hospital for treatment but later died from their injuries.
The truck helper sustained injuries and is currently recovering in a hospital.
Meanwhile, the truck driver is now under the custody of the Jimalalud Police Station as authorities continue their investigation into the incident.
Police have yet to release further details regarding the circumstances of the crash as the investigation remains ongoing.
Authorities are continuing to gather information to determine the exact cause of the collision.
