The PHIVOLCS continues to warn residents living near Mount Kanlaon following the volcano’s emission of thick ash last night.
In an interview with Brigada NewsFM Manila, PHIVOLCS Director Teresito Bacolcol explained that the ash from yesterday’s eruption was thicker compared to the February 19 eruption.
He added that the plume height was also higher, resulting in a wider area being affected.
Because of this, the agency continues to remind residents to exercise caution and wear face masks, especially those with asthma, pregnant women, senior citizens, and individuals with pre-existing health conditions.
Aircraft have also been advised to avoid flying near the volcano due to the possibility of another eruption at any time.
Meanwhile, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) remains on alert for residents on Negros Island following the renewed activity of Mount Kanlaon.
According to the DSWD, it is closely monitoring the situation to ensure that immediate assistance can be provided to families who may be affected by the eruption.
