The Philippine Space Agency (PhilSA) reported that the area of farmland affected by volcanic ash from Mayon Volcano is now nearly the size of Mandaluyong City.
This followed the pyroclastic density current recorded on May 2.
In a statement, PhilSA said the estimated ash deposit extent from the volcano has affected at least 1,000 hectares of rice fields and 191 hectares of other crops.
The combined affected area is reportedly comparable in size to Mandaluyong City.
“The Philippine Space Agency (PhilSA) produced a crop exposure map showing ash-affected Physical Rice Areas (orange) and Other Crop Areas (yellow) following the reported pyroclastic density current at Mayon Volcano on 2 May 2026. At least 1,039 hectares of rice areas and 191 hectares of other crops were potentially affected because they are found within the Estimated Ash Deposit Extent—covering a combined area roughly the size of Mandaluyong City,” it said.
Meanwhile, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) said that more than 50 barangays have already been affected by ashfall from Mayon Volcano.
