Team Philippines has made an early mark at the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, securing two bronze medals to open its medal campaign.
The Philippine Women’s Soft Tennis Team delivered the country’s first podium finish after bowing to defending champion Japan in the semifinals, earning the bronze medal.
Carlos Alvarez followed suit, claiming another bronze for the Philippines in the Men’s Traditional -77kg division of Mixed Martial Arts.
Alvarez’s campaign ended in the semifinals after he was defeated by Kazakhstan’s representative.
The two bronze medals put the Philippines at 20th in the latest Asian Games medal standings, sharing the spot with Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Brunei Darussalam, and Iran.
With more events still to come, Team Philippines continues its campaign for additional medals in Aichi-Nagoya.
