Philippines named Asia’s Leading Dive Destination for 8th straight year

The Philippines has once again been named Asia’s Leading Dive Destination at the 2026 World Travel Awards Asia, Oceania & Indian Ocean, marking the country’s eighth consecutive win in the category.

The awards ceremony was held at CROSSROADS Maldives on September 27, where the Philippines also secured five other major honors.

These include Asia’s Leading Beach Destination for the ninth time and Asia’s Leading Island Destination for the third consecutive year.

Boracay was again recognized as Asia’s Leading Luxury Island Destination for the third straight year, while the Department of Tourism (DOT) was named Asia’s Leading Tourist Board for the fourth time.

Meanwhile, the City of San Fernando, Pampanga won Asia’s Leading Cultural City Destination for the first time, recognizing its rich culture, traditions, arts, cuisine, and festivals, including the renowned Giant Lantern Festival.

Tourism Secretary Dita Angara-Mathay said the DOT plans to further strengthen diving as one of the country’s key tourism products in 2027 by improving access and logistics, promotion, safety, and training for tourism frontliners.

The Philippine tourism industry also brought home nine Asia-level awards, including Philippine Airlines, which was named Asia’s Leading Cultural Airline.

Other Philippine winners included Savoy Hotel Manila, Amanpulo, Discovery Primea, Admiral Hotel Manila – MGallery, Ascott Bonifacio Global City Manila, City of Dreams Manila, Fili Hotel Bridgetowne, and Okada Manila.

Established in 1993, the World Travel Awards recognizes excellence across the travel, tourism, and hospitality industries at the regional and global levels.
