The Philippines is emerging as one of the economies helping drive the growth of global tourism, according to the World Economic Forum’s 2026 Travel & Tourism Development Index.
The WEF identified the Philippines as one of the Asia-Pacific countries showing rapid progress in tourism development, alongside China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam.
The report found that 92 percent of the 110 economies assessed improved their tourism development scores between 2024 and 2026.
The growth is being driven by factors including better tourism infrastructure, improved air connectivity, as well as the country’s cultural resources and natural attractions.
The WEF, however, emphasized the importance of making tourism growth sustainable by ensuring long-term economic benefits while protecting the environment and communities in tourist destinations.
