A heated argument between a live-in couple ended in a shooting early Monday in Barangay San Jose, Manjuyod, Negros Oriental police said.
Authorities said they received a call about the incident around 2 a.m. on Feb. 24.
Initial investigation showed that the couple was inside their home when a serious argument broke out. During the confrontation, the 37-year-old woman allegedly retrieved a caliber .22 firearm from their room and shot her 43-year-old partner, who works as a pedicab driver.
The victim was hit on the right side of his neck. He was immediately brought to a hospital for medical treatment. Police did not release further details about his condition.
The suspect is now in police custody while authorities continue their investigation.
Police have yet to announce possible charges as they gather more information about the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The shooting occurred within the couple’s residence in Barangay San Jose, a coastal village in the municipality of Manjuyod.
Investigators are working to determine the sequence of events that led to the gun being used during the argument.
No other individuals were reported injured in the incident.
Authorities reminded the public to seek peaceful means in resolving domestic disputes as the investigation continues.
