Palace says Dizon cleared, Cayetano not investigated in SEA Games issue

Malacañang said former Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) president and current Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Vince Dizon had previously been investigated and cleared in connection with issues surrounding the 2019 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games.

The statement came following the National Bureau of Investigation’s (NBI) plan to investigate alleged anomalies related to the country’s hosting of the 2019 SEA Games, including issues linked to former Philippine SEA Games Organizing Committee chairman Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano.

Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said records show that Dizon had already undergone an investigation and that the case against him had been dismissed.

Castro said this was the reason the Palace considers the matter involving Dizon to have already been resolved.

She also said that, based on her knowledge, Cayetano and other individuals who may have been linked to the issue were not investigated at the time.

According to Castro, the previous administration had allegedly cleared Cayetano before a formal investigation could take place.

The Palace issued the statement as questions emerged over the NBI’s planned review of the alleged irregularities surrounding the 2019 SEA Games.

The NBI has announced plans to look into the alleged anomalies connected with the sporting event.

Malacañang maintained that Dizon had already been investigated and cleared, while distinguishing his case from that of Cayetano.

The Palace’s remarks reflected its position on the matter amid renewed attention on the planned NBI inquiry into the alleged irregularities involving the Philippines’ hosting of the 2019 SEA Games. No additional details regarding the planned investigation were provided in the statement.
