Senator Robin Padilla raised alarm after a satirical Facebook event titled “Burn Senator Robin” gained viral traction online, drawing nearly 40,000 responses.
Padilla shared on social media that the event has deeply concerned his family. He revealed that his security detail has been placed on red alert over fears that the post could be exploited by potential terrorists.
The controversial event stemmed from Padilla’s previous statement that “even if you burn me, I will still smell like Duterte.” Critics turned the phrase into a satirical online event, which has since received more than 37,000 “interested” responses and about 1,000 marked as “going.”
According to the senator, his family has coordinated with the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to express their concerns and alert authorities to the potential seriousness of the post. However, Padilla confirmed that they have decided to withdraw plans to file a cyber libel complaint against the event organizers.
Despite the situation, Padilla emphasized that politicians should not be overly sensitive. He also urged the public to respect everyone’s freedom of expression.
As of now, there has been no official confirmation from authorities regarding any direct threats linked to the online post, but Padilla’s camp continues to monitor the situation closely.
