P28.39M marijuana destroyed in Cordillera anti-drug operations

Authorities confiscated and destroyed marijuana plants worth about P28.39 million during separate anti-drug operations conducted by the Police Regional Office–Cordillera Administrative Region (PRO-CAR) in Benguet and Mountain Province on Feb. 27, 2026.

According to the Regional Operations Division of PRO-CAR, law enforcement teams discovered a large marijuana plantation in Mount Paras along the boundary of Sadanga, Mountain Province, and Tinglayan, Kalinga.

Operatives found around 50,000 fully grown marijuana plants with an estimated standard drug price of P10 million. They also recovered dried marijuana stalks with leaves valued at P4.8 million.

The operation was carried out by personnel from the Sadanga Municipal Police Station, Provincial Intelligence Unit, and Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit of the Mountain Province Police Provincial Office, together with agents from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in Mountain Province.

Meanwhile, authorities also discovered 11 marijuana plantation sites in Benguet province.

Police reported that the plantations contained about 17,550 fully grown marijuana plants and approximately 84,000 grams of dried marijuana leaves with fruiting tops. The seized drugs were estimated to have a standard drug price of P13.59 million.

The Benguet operations involved operatives from the Kapangan, Kibungan, and Bakun municipal police stations, along with the 1st and 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company, Provincial Intelligence Unit, Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit, Regional Intelligence Division, Regional Intelligence Unit-14, and PDEA-Cordillera.

The marijuana plantations were located in Barangay Kayapa in Bakun; Barangays Tacadang and Badeo in Kibungan; and Barangay Gadang in Kapangan.

All discovered marijuana plants were uprooted and burned on-site by authorities.

Police said investigations are ongoing to locate other possible marijuana plantations and identify individuals responsible for cultivating the illegal crops.
