Over 8,700 TB cases recorded in Davao City in 2025

As the world marks World TB Day, health authorities reported 8,712 tuberculosis cases in Davao City for 2025.

Out of the total number, around 7,127 were identified as new tuberculosis cases detected through intensified active case finding efforts.

According to Dr. Jeannie Marie D. Salamasan, the increase in reported cases reflects improved detection rather than an actual surge.

She explained that active case finding allowed health workers to identify more patients who were previously undiagnosed within communities across the city.

However, she also noted that overcrowded living conditions and poor nutrition continue to contribute significantly to the spread of tuberculosis.

Most cases involve individuals aged 15 to 65 years old, making adults the most affected group in the city.

Health officials urge the public to seek immediate consultation at health centers if symptoms persist for two weeks or longer.

Common symptoms include persistent cough, fever, and unintentional weight loss, which may indicate possible tuberculosis infection requiring immediate medical attention.

The National Tuberculosis Program continues to aim for zero disease, zero suffering, and zero burden despite the high number.

Authorities emphasized that awareness, early detection, and proper treatment remain crucial in reducing tuberculosis cases and preventing further transmission.

The local government continues strengthening its programs to ensure accessible services and encourage community participation in tuberculosis prevention and control efforts.
