No entry policy enforced in Mayon 6-kilometer danger zone

Authorities are strictly enforcing a no entry policy within the 6-kilometer Permanent Danger Zone of Mayon Volcano following an increase in alert level and the continuing threat of a possible eruption.

The Police Regional Office 5 said Acting Regional Director PBGEN Erosito Miranda has directed the Albay Police Provincial Office to ensure full enforcement of the ban on any presence inside the PDZ.

The directive is in line with an advisory from the Albay Public Safety and Emergency Management Office, which strictly prohibits climbing, entering, and staying within areas close to the volcano. The ban covers residents, tourists, mountaineers, tour guides, and other individuals.

APSEMO said the PDZ remains extremely dangerous due to the continuing threats of lava flows, pyroclastic density currents, rockfalls, and ashfall. Officials reiterated that these hazards can occur suddenly and pose serious risks to life and property.

As part of heightened security measures, police have established checkpoints and chokepoints and are conducting regular patrols along access roads and trails surrounding Mayon. Authorities said these measures aim to prevent unauthorized entry and ensure public safety amid the volcano’s unrest.

Officials warned that individuals who violate the no entry policy may face appropriate penalties under existing laws and local ordinances. The public is urged to follow government advisories and avoid restricted areas to reduce the risk of injury or loss of life.

Authorities said enforcement will remain in place while alert conditions persist.
