Incoming U.S. Ambassador to the Philippines Lee Lipton has met with Philippine Ambassador to the United States Jose Manuel Romualdez to further strengthen the partnership between the two countries.
According to Romualdez, they had a “productive exchange” during their discussion and also talked about opportunities for both nations as they commemorate the 80th anniversary of Philippine-U.S. relations.
Lipton will serve as the new U.S. Ambassador to the Philippines after being confirmed by the United States Senate.
He was nominated in January and underwent confirmation hearings before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
Lipton previously served as interim permanent representative of the U.S. Mission to the Organization of American States, where he handled interagency coordination on foreign policy priorities in the Western Hemisphere.
Meanwhile, Lipton is now preparing for his trip to the Philippines.
He is expected to travel to the country next month.
He replaces MaryKay Carlson, who served in the post for more than three years.
