A mother and her two children died in a house fire that broke out before dawn in Barangay Gumalang, Baguio District, Davao City on Nov. 25. The Davao City Fire District identified the victims as 35-year-old Daphne Laurden, her six-year-old daughter Cara Elloies, and her two-year-old son Zee.
Fire investigators said the blaze was discovered at about 2:27 a.m. and was already spreading quickly. Responders from BFP Calinan and the Central 911 Fire Auxiliary Unit arrived after receiving the report at 2:40 a.m. The fire was declared under control at 3:10 a.m. and was fully extinguished at 3:30 a.m.
According to FO3 Jason Iguana of BFP Calinan, the possible cause of the fire was substandard electrical wiring. Investigators reported that the fire spread rapidly through the structure, preventing the victims from escaping.
Authorities said the victims’ immediate family did not request Scene of the Crime Operatives to process the area, noting that no signs of foul play were observed.
The investigation into the incident continues as fire personnel assess the circumstances that led to the fatal blaze. The tragedy has drawn concern within the community as residents await the final findings from authorities.
