A mother and her daughter were injured in a shooting tied to a land dispute in Barangay Busdac, Bacacay, Albay, according to police reports.
The incident was recorded on video shared by Justin Bas. The footage shows the suspect, identified as 73-year-old Juan Barcia y Bas, standing in front of the victims while pointing a firearm at them. The confrontation escalated until the suspect fired at close range.
Police said Anjie Bas was hit in the left thigh, while her daughter, Nelia Bas, sustained a gunshot wound to the right thigh. Residents rushed both victims to Cabasan District Hospital. They were later transferred to the Bicol Regional Hospital and Medical Center in Legazpi City for further treatment.
Following the shooting, Barcia fled toward the mountainous area of Barangay Pigcobuhan. Local police launched a hot pursuit operation and located him in the upland community of the same town. Officers recovered the firearm believed to have been used in the attack.
Barcia was taken into custody and is now detained. Investigators said the initial inquiry points to a longstanding land dispute as the motive behind the attack.
Police confirmed that Barcia will face two counts of frustrated murder. Authorities said additional charges may be considered depending on the final assessment of evidence and the victims’ medical condition.
The case has drawn attention in the community, where residents noted the long-running tension linked to property issues. Police assured that the investigation will continue as they gather more statements and review available video evidence.
