A minor remained missing as of Friday after diving into floodwaters from a bridge in Binongan Creek in Barangay Binongan, Veruela, Agusan Del Sur on Feb. 20, 2026.
The missing individual was identified as 15-year-old Nico Abreño. He was with three friends who were swimming in floodwaters at the time and using the bridge as a diving platform.
In an exclusive interview with Brigada, witness Ailyn Rosales said she tried to stop the minor before he jumped into the swollen creek. According to her, the teenager was determined to record a video of himself diving into the floodwaters as content.
Despite her warning, he proceeded with the dive, she said.
Another companion, Aldren Rosales, also spoke to Brigada and said they did not expect the water current to be strong. He said the minor was caught in swirling waters moments after jumping.
Aldren said they attempted to rescue their friend but were unable to reach him as he was pulled away by the current and disappeared from sight.
Search and rescue operations were ongoing as of reporting. Responders continued to scour portions of Binongan Creek in an effort to locate the missing minor.
Authorities have yet to release additional information as the search continues. The incident occurred amid flooding in the area, which had drawn residents to the creek.
