Massive fire razes 80 homes in Davao City, 100 families left homeless

About 100 families lost their homes after a large fire broke out in Lower Dampa, Barangay Magtuod, Davao City, shortly after 1 p.m. on March 3, 2026.

Senior Fire Inspector Frances Marie Sendrijas, information officer of the Davao City Fire Department, said around 80 houses were destroyed in the blaze.

Authorities have yet to determine the cause of the fire. The Bureau of Fire Protection continues its investigation.

Initial estimates from the BFP placed the damage at more than P600,000.

One of the victims, interviewed by Brigada Davao, said the fire spread suddenly. The resident said they focused on ensuring the safety of their family members and were unable to save any belongings.

Families affected by the incident are temporarily staying at the Magtuod Elementary School gymnasium, which has been designated as an evacuation center.

Local authorities continue to assess the extent of the damage while providing assistance to displaced residents.
