Marcos to lead first full Cabinet meeting of 2025: Key projects and strategies to take center stage

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is set to preside over the first full Cabinet meeting of 2025 on Jan. 7, focusing on the administration’s legacy projects and big-ticket initiatives, many of which are financed through official development assistance (ODA). The meeting marks the beginning of a pivotal year for the administration as it seeks to solidify its long-term impact through infrastructure and economic reforms.

Presidential Communications Secretary Cesar Chavez confirmed the agenda, revealing discussions would center on high-priority programs that aim to boost economic growth and address ongoing challenges. Chavez also noted that the President has already begun collaborating with key officials, including Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, to finalize the agenda.

Economic strategy and private sector input

President Marcos has consistently emphasized the importance of collaboration with both public and private sectors. In addition to weekly Cabinet meetings focusing on specific clusters, the President frequently consults the Private Sector Advisory Council to incorporate industry insights into economic policymaking. These consultations have become crucial in formulating strategies to combat inflation and improve infrastructure.

Last year, Marcos oversaw two full Cabinet meetings, two special gatherings, and 49 sectoral discussions, highlighting the administration’s hands-on approach to governance.

Vin d’honneur and international diplomacy

Adding to the packed January schedule, the annual vin d’honneur reception will take place on Jan. 11 at Malacañang Palace. This event brings together diplomats, government leaders, and members of the judiciary to foster diplomatic relations and celebrate national milestones. Last year, the President used the occasion to spotlight economic achievements and reinforce the Philippines’ commitment to international law and cooperation.

As 2025 unfolds, all eyes will be on how the administration delivers on its promises and navigates challenges in achieving its legacy goals.
