Marcos declines comment on Sara Duterte impeachment complaints

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. declined to comment on the two impeachment complaints filed against Vice President Sara Duterte, saying the matter falls under the mandate of the House of Representatives.

In an ambush interview, Marcos said it was not his job to discuss the complaints and that the House should be allowed to perform its constitutional duty. He expressed confidence that lawmakers would handle the filings properly and in accordance with established procedures.

The president’s remarks came after House Secretary General Cheloy Garafil confirmed that two impeachment complaints against the vice president had been transmitted to the Office of the Speaker for appropriate action.

Marcos said the issue should be left to the House, reiterating that the chamber is responsible for addressing such complaints. He did not provide further comment on the substance of the allegations.

Separately, the president referred to a previous impeachment complaint filed against him that had been dismissed by the House Committee on Justice. He said he was pleased the matter had been resolved and that the government could now continue with its work.

Marcos added that he was not overly concerned about the complaint previously filed against him, saying he believed it lacked sufficient basis. He described the filing as a political move that he said had disrupted the administration’s work.

The Palace had earlier issued a similar statement following the dismissal of the complaint against the president.

As of now, the two impeachment complaints against Duterte remain pending before the House of Representatives, which will determine the next steps in the process.
