Man hostages widow in Cavite to demand wife’s presence

A possible tragedy was averted after police safely rescued a 71-year-old widow held hostage by a man who demanded the presence of his wife Monday night in Malainen here.

Authorities identified the victim as “Nena,” while the 32-year-old suspect was identified as “Lando.” No one was injured during the incident.

Police said they received information around 9 p.m. on Feb. 16, 2026, that the suspect had forcibly entered the victim’s home, tied her up and closed all exits while making threats. The suspect reportedly demanded that his live-in partner come to the house.

Concerned residents alerted authorities, prompting an immediate response from local Philippine National Police units.

Responding officers secured the area and began negotiations in an effort to resolve the situation peacefully. Additional police personnel later arrived to assist, coordinating with barangay officials and community representatives.

After about two hours of negotiation and assessment, police were able to safely enter the house, subdue the suspect and place him under arrest.

The victim is currently under protective care. Authorities are preparing to file appropriate charges against the suspect at the Naic Municipal Police Station as the investigation continues.
