Tulfo not interested in ‘Leni-Erwin’ tandem

Sen. Erwin Tulfo said he is not interested in a proposed “Leni-Erwin” tandem for the 2028 national elections, dismissing the idea floated by a political strategist as speculation.

Tulfo said he does not support the suggestion that he could run alongside former Vice President Leni Robredo in a ticket that could challenge Vice President Sara Duterte in the next presidential race. He added that he is satisfied with his current work and has no plans to seek a higher position.

According to Tulfo, running for a higher office would again expose him to political attacks, something he and his family no longer want to deal with. He stressed that nothing could persuade him to pursue a higher post at this time.

Tulfo’s remarks came after political strategist Alan German mentioned in an interview that a possible “Leni-Erwin” tandem could be a scenario for the opposition in the 2028 presidential election. German clarified that he was not actively promoting the tandem but was speaking in terms of strategy and possible options that could be considered.

German said the pairing was only a theoretical approach in building a potential opposition strategy against a possible presidential bid by Duterte in 2028.

Tulfo reiterated that he has no interest in the idea and prefers to focus on his current responsibilities. He maintained that he is content with his role and does not intend to seek a higher office in the upcoming election cycle.

The senator did not elaborate further on his political plans beyond his current position.
