Man found dead near Davao City bridge after wedding celebration

A 52-year-old man was found dead early Friday under a river near a bridge in Barangay Calinan Pob., Calinan District, Davao City.

According to police, a concerned citizen reported the discovery around 7:00 p.m. on March 7, prompting investigators to respond immediately. The victim was later identified as Edgardo Araya Antoc, a resident of Purok 7, Roman Diaz Extension, in the same barangay.

Edgardo’s nephew stated that he had attended a wedding at a neighbor’s house on the evening of March 6. Witnesses said he was intoxicated when he decided to walk home alone, taking a path near the dike by the river around 8:00 p.m. It is suspected that he slipped, hit his head on the pavement, and fell into the river.

At approximately 5:30 a.m. the following day, residents discovered his lifeless body under the river. They immediately informed nearby houses, relatives, and the Calinan Police Station. Emergency responders arrived to retrieve the body, and an initial investigation found no signs of foul play.
