Lower power transmission rates expected in May – NGCP

The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) has announced a possible reduction in electricity charges for the month of May.

During a media briefing, the NGCP said the overall average transmission rate decreased by 9.33% to ₱1.4492 per kilowatt-hour (kWh), down from ₱1.5983 per kWh in April.

The lower transmission charges are expected to be reflected in consumers’ electricity bills this month.

According to the NGCP, the anticipated decrease is primarily due to a lower wheeling rate, which refers to the cost of delivering electricity through the transmission grid.

The wheeling rate reportedly declined by 6.99% to ₱0.56 per kWh from ₱0.6028 per kWh in April.

In addition, charges for ancillary services, which help maintain the stability and reliability of the power grid, also decreased, contributing to the overall reduction in transmission rates.
