Motorists may experience slightly lighter traffic along the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) and Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX) this Holy Week due to the continued surge in fuel prices.
According to Robin Ignacio, assistant vice president for traffic operations at NLEX Corporation, there has been a noticeable decline in the number of vehicles using the expressways.
Ignacio said that while traffic typically builds up during the weekend before Holy Week, this year has been different.
Traffic flow has remained mostly fast-moving, and the usual pre-rush hour congestion has not been as heavy.
Despite this, NLEX management still expects a 3% increase in daily average vehicle volume during the Holy Week period.
Vehicle volume on NLEX usually reaches around 400,000 per day, while SCTEX records about 87,000 daily during the same period.
Although traffic may not be as heavy as in previous years, Ignacio assured the public that they remain prepared for any situation.
The management also expects vehicle volume to gradually increase starting Tuesday.
