Lacson says he will not run again, plans exit by 2031

Senate President Pro Tempore Panfilo “Ping” Lacson said he has no plans to run again for any elected position, saying he is already in the final stage of his political career.

Lacson made the statement during an interview at the Philippine Military Academy Alumni Homecoming in Baguio City. He said that although he remains eligible to run in future elections, he has decided not to seek another post.

He added that he intends to end his political career in 2031, the same year his current term as senator is set to expire.

Lacson’s remarks came as discussions about the 2028 national elections have begun to surface. The conversation intensified after Vice President Sara Duterte earlier announced that she plans to run for president in 2028.

So far, there has been no official announcement about who Duterte’s running mate would be. However, several names have been mentioned in political discussions as possible tandem partners.

Lacson did not indicate any interest in participating in the upcoming national races and reiterated that he plans to retire from politics once his term ends.

The senator has held various positions in government over the years, including roles in law enforcement and the legislature. His latest statement signals a planned conclusion to his public service career once he completes his current mandate.

He said his focus now is to fulfill his remaining duties as senator until 2031.
