Kontra Daya: complaint vs. Marcoleta should serve as warning to politicians

Kontra Daya stressed that government officials must uphold honesty at all times.

This comes after the group filed a perjury complaint before the Office of the Ombudsman and a separate complaint for election rule violations before the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) against Senator Marcoleta.

In an interview with Brigada News FM Manila, Kontra Daya convenor Danilo Arao explained the basis of the complaints.

According to Arao, candidates are required by COMELEC to disclose all campaign donations, including the names of donors.
However, in Marcoleta’s case, the senator mentioned a donor whose identity he withheld because the donor supposedly preferred not to be named.

As for the Ombudsman complaint, it concerns the issue of truthfulness in the senator’s declarations.

Because of this, Kontra Daya fears that other politicians might also resort to similar practices.

The election watchdog said they filed the complaints to help ensure transparency among candidates, particularly regarding campaign contributions.

Arao also clarified that their actions do not constitute forum shopping.
While the facts they presented are the same, the complaints filed are distinct and addressed to different government bodies.
