Sen. Imee Marcos has fired back at Senate President Chiz Escudero, calling him “ambitious” amid tensions over the handling of a contempt order.
Marcos insisted there is no “show cause order” stated in the Senate rules, contradicting Escudero’s earlier claim tied to Special Envoy Markus Lacanilao’s case.
Escudero had denied blocking the contempt order against Lacanilao, as earlier suggested by Marcos in media interviews. According to Escudero, he did not sign the document because it lacked proper approval and due process. He also cited humanitarian grounds, noting Lacanilao was set to attend his grandfather’s funeral at the time.
Marcos, however, stood firm and described Escudero as “ambitious,” adding that he always thinks highly of himself. She implied that his reaction may be due to tension over the anticipated changes within Congress.
The clash between the two senators highlights growing friction inside the Senate as leadership shifts loom and political alignments shift.
