7 cops linked to Espinosa shooting test negative for gunpowder

Seven police officers tagged as persons of interest in the shooting of mayoral candidate Kerwin Espinosa last week have tested negative in a paraffin test.

Despite the result, Philippine National Police Public Information Office Chief Col. Randulf Tuaño clarified that the negative test does not automatically clear the officers of involvement.

Tuaño explained that there are ways to produce a negative result in a paraffin test, including applying chemicals on the hands or wearing gloves before firing a gun.

Currently, the seven officers are facing charges of illegal possession of firearms. Authorities recovered ten firearms from them, nine of which were found to have no official records.

The officers remain under restrictive custody as investigations continue.

No additional updates have been provided as the case is still under active investigation.
