The Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) has insisted that it is not protecting former House Speaker Martin Romualdez from scrutiny amid the ongoing investigation into the alleged kickback scheme in public works projects.
This comes as speculation grows that Romualdez is benefiting from the ICI’s supposed protection.
In an interview, ICI Executive Director Brian Hosaka said the commission is not giving Romualdez any kind of free pass. He stressed that such claims are untrue.
Hosaka added that they have even submitted documents and evidence to the Office of the Ombudsman to assist in the investigation involving the former speaker.
Aside from this issue, the ICI is also facing criticism for not making public the proceedings of its inquiry into alleged corruption in flood control projects.
