ICC confirms rare “fall” incidents involving former PRRD in detention

The International Criminal Court (ICC) Registry confirmed that former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte experienced “rare occasions” of falls while in detention.

In a seven-page document submitted to ICC Trial Chamber III dated May 20, the ICC Registry said that whenever Duterte experienced a fall, custody staff at the ICC Detention Centre immediately responded and arranged for a medical assessment.

The registry also said ergonomic adjustments were made to Duterte’s room and visiting areas to help improve his mobility following the incidents.

Additional modifications were likewise introduced inside his cell to make him more comfortable.

According to the registry, Duterte is currently under “cell monitoring” for safety reasons.

Meanwhile, the ICC reported that no fall incidents have been recorded over the past 30 days.
