Two 7-year-old boys were found dead inside an abandoned vehicle in Purok Yuso, Sitio Bantayan, Barangay Tuyan, City of Naga, Cebu, authorities said.
The victims were identified as “Reymart” and “Jheff,” both residents of Sitio Tapon.
According to reports, the bodies were discovered at around 2 p.m. after the children had been missing since Sunday, May 17, 2026.
Their parents reportedly began searching for them after both boys failed to return home.
CCTV footage showed the two children walking together along a barangay road toward the area where the abandoned vehicle was parked.
Investigators later found Jheff seated in the driver’s seat while Reymart was located at the back portion of the vehicle.
In an interview with Brigada News FM Cebu, Reymart’s mother, Bernadette, said the boys were close friends who often played together near their neighborhood.
She said she became worried after her son did not return home and later went to the house of Jheff to ask about the children.
Jheff’s mother, Jessa, said she had also been searching for her son after realizing he was gone.
She recalled hearing Jheff say “I love you” before she rested, but said she did not expect him to leave the house afterward.
Due to the advanced stage of decomposition of the bodies, the families decided to immediately bury the children.
Meanwhile, PLtCol. Dexter Calacar, chief of the City of Naga Police, reminded parents to closely monitor and supervise their children.
Police authorities said the investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
