ICC allows new evidence from Duterte camp, prosecution

The International Criminal Court (ICC) has granted requests from the legal team of former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte and prosecutors to submit additional evidence in the case.

In a four-page order, the ICC Pre-Trial Chamber I directed both the defense and the prosecution to file updated lists of evidence before Feb. 13.

The defense team of Duterte asked to add 78 new pieces of evidence to be used during the hearing on the confirmation of charges. The prosecution did not oppose the request.

At the same time, prosecutors also sought permission to include two additional pieces of evidence. The defense did not object to this request.

The Pre-Trial Chamber approved both motions, allowing the parties to expand the evidence to be considered ahead of the confirmation of charges proceedings.

The order sets a deadline for both sides to formally submit their updated evidence lists as part of preparations for the upcoming hearing.

No further details about the contents of the new evidence were included in the order summary.

The confirmation of charges process will determine whether the case will move forward to trial. Both parties are currently preparing their submissions in line with the court’s instructions.

The ICC’s latest order reflects procedural steps in the ongoing case involving the former Philippine leader. The court did not provide additional commentary beyond the approval of the requests and the submission deadline.

The defense and prosecution are expected to comply with the Feb. 13 deadline as they prepare for the next stage of proceedings.
