A 39-year-old man was arrested in an entrapment operation conducted by the Regional Anti-Cybercrime Unit 9 for allegedly blackmailing his former girlfriend using her explicit photos and videos.
The suspect, identified only by the alias “Emet,” was apprehended at about 3:50 p.m. on Feb. 7, 2026, in Zamboanga City.
Authorities said the operation was carried out after a complaint was filed against the suspect for alleged online harassment and blackmail involving private images.
Police said the suspect is facing charges for violations of Article 286 of the Revised Penal Code, or grave coercion, Republic Act 9262 or the Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act of 2004, and Republic Act 9995 or the Anti-Photo and Video Voyeurism Act of 2009. These charges are in relation to Section 6 of Republic Act 10175, also known as the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.
Investigators alleged that the suspect used explicit photos and videos of his former partner to threaten and harass her online.
PBGEN Wilson C. Asueta, acting director of the Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group, commended the operatives who conducted the entrapment operation.
He said no one has the right to use private images as tools for intimidation, humiliation or control. He added that the Anti-Cybercrime Group will continue pursuing individuals involved in online harassment and abuse.
Authorities did not release further details about the complainant or the status of the investigation.
