Heavy rainfall caused widespread flooding across several parts of Cebu on Thursday, July 30, inundating communities, disrupting transportation, and prompting authorities to monitor river levels as severe weather continued.
At least 10 areas in Cebu City were affected by flooding, including the barangays of Tisa, Labangon, Zapatera, Basak Pardo, and Guadalupe.
Floodwaters in some locations rose above knee level, making roads difficult to pass and leaving several residents stranded.
A landslide was also reported in Miramonte, Barangay Pit-os.
The Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office continued monitoring the water levels of nine rivers across the city as the heavy rains persisted.
Videos taken in Barangay Tisa showed residents helping one another cross fast-moving floodwaters by holding onto each other to avoid being swept away by the current.
In the same area, an electric bicycle was carried away by the strong flow of floodwater.
Floodwaters also entered a house in Barangay Duljo Fatima, causing further disruption to affected residents.
Meanwhile, commuting became hazardous in Tipolo, Mandaue City, where floodwaters entered a public utility bus traveling through waist-deep water.
One passenger was seen holding onto a railing while lifting both feet to avoid the floodwater that had entered the vehicle.
On the same day, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA)-Mactan issued a thunderstorm warning covering Cebu and nearby areas.
Authorities continued to monitor conditions and urged close observation of river levels as heavy rains affected several communities throughout the province. No casualties or injuries were reported in the information released.
