The Hope Builders Organization Negros Island Incorporated (HBONI) has expanded its mission by diversifying from focusing on various educational initiatives to launching income-generating programs that will sustain and fuel its projects across the island.
One such initiative, dubbed “Thrift for Hope: Ukay for a Cause,” officially kicked off on Wednesday, May 21. The goal is to generate sufficient funds to provide hygiene kits for 150 beneficiaries in the hinter-communities of Himamaylan City.
In a statement, HBONI emphasized the dual purpose of the project. It said, “This initiative encourages individuals to embrace thrift shopping as a means of reducing waste and promoting eco-conscious living.”
For HBONI, purchasing second-hand items not only aids communities in need but also fosters a sense of hope and solidarity.
“By buying second-hand goods, we discover unique and meaningful treasures while directly supporting local charities that uplift the underprivileged. Each purchase contributes to our programs, empowering marginalized communities with essential resources, education, and support,” HBONI said.
The organization was established in 2019 as a non-profit entity with a vision to “build hope” through a range of initiatives led by the youth sector—widely regarded as the hope of the future.
Through its diverse programs and projects, the organization continues to harness the collective power of the youth to create meaningful, sustainable impacts in the newly-formed Negros Island Region (NIR).
Since its founding, HBONI has grown significantly, now boasting a network of over 500 members across Negros Island. *
