Former presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said he will vote for Senator Imee Marcos in the upcoming elections, but only because she has the endorsement of Vice President Sara Duterte.
In a statement, Roque clarified that his support is not due to personal admiration for Marcos. Instead, he is backing her solely out of loyalty to Duterte, who publicly endorsed the senator.
He expressed lingering distrust toward Imee Marcos, hinting at deeper frustrations with the Marcos family’s political legacy.
Roque even compared the situation to a popular Filipino proverb, saying, “A mango tree will never bear santol fruit,” suggesting that Imee shares the same values as her brother, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.
His comments have drawn attention for their sharp tone and pointed criticism, particularly given the ongoing alliances forming ahead of the 2025 elections.
As of writing, neither Senator Marcos nor the Office of the Vice President has issued a response to Roque’s statements.
