Four people were killed in a collision involving a motorcycle and a wingvan truck Tuesday afternoon in Sitio Maaslom, Barangay Busay, Cebu City authorities said.
The crash occurred around 3 p.m. on March 10, according to the Traffic Enforcement Unit of the Cebu City Police Office.
Police identified the fatalities as Jose Gacayan Jr., 26, the driver of the motorcycle, along with his passengers Ereneya Lopez, 60, and Felex Vasquez, 50. All three were residents of Cebu City.
Also killed was the wingvan driver, Roger Suyman, 49, a resident of Tandag City in Surigao del Sur.
Initial police investigation showed that the wingvan was traveling downhill while the motorcycle was heading uphill along the road in the area.
Authorities said that when the vehicles reached the portion of the road where the incident occurred, the wingvan allegedly crossed over the lane and collided with the approaching motorcycle.
The impact of the collision was strong enough that the wingvan ran over the motorcycle driver and his two passengers, resulting in their immediate deaths.
Suyman, the wingvan driver, was declared dead on arrival at the hospital.
Meanwhile, his helper, identified as Gener Aberto Bacnis, 53, survived the incident and is currently recovering from injuries.
Police said an investigation into the crash is still ongoing.
The Cebu City Police Office’s Traffic Enforcement Unit continues to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident to determine the exact cause of the collision.
Authorities have not yet released additional details as of this writing.
